Restore in the Outdoors

Experience the benefits of being among nature during Restore in the Outdoors, a program series offered through Oakland County Parks (OCP) that takes a holistic approach to well-being by emphasizing physical fitness, mental health, social connectivity and fun.

This year, Restore in the Outdoors has expanded to a series of free or low-cost health and wellness programs in communities across Oakland County. Programming spans the spring, summer and fall seasons, including the new program Find Your Fit.  Presented by Oak Park Recreation and Oakland County Parks, Find Your Fit is a free event featuring rock climbing, fitness activities, inflatables, archery, inflatables, climbing tower, arts and crafts, nature walks and a wellness-themed nature table for all ages and abilities. It will be held from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14.

Saturday Morning Yoga

Enjoy a free, 45-minute lesson with Studio 8 Fitness instructors. Free yoga mats are available for the first 10 yoga participants. Lessons will take place on the grassy area to the west of the market building. In case of inclement weather, program will be canceled. Watch the market’s Facebook page for updates. There is always something happening at Oakland County Parks! Mark your calendar for these upcoming events and be sure to register early (where applicable) as programs do tend to fill up quickly. Event details and links to additional information will be posted below as they become available.

Archery Classes

This class series is a great introduction to archery as a sport. For an hour every week, archers will spend time on the range learning about fundamentals, safety and competition. Equipment is provided at the range; personal equipment can be brought. Archers must wear closed-toed shoes. This program is recommended for ages 8 and older. Two class sessions continue to be available at Independence Oaks County Park:

  • Sept. 2, 9, 16, 4-5 p.m.
  • Sept. 2, 9, 16, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Archery 101

Try the art of archery during an Archery 101 session from 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 13 at Independence Oaks County Park. With archery instructors on site, learn archery basics and enjoy practice time at the archery range. All equipment is included.

Adults Only Archery

Adult participants can learn the basics of archery with qualified instructors at the archery range during Adults Only Archery from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 13 at Independence Oaks County Park.

Monster Mayhem

Have fun shooting at 3D monster targets during Monster Mayhem from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 20 at Independence Oaks County Park. General archery instruction and equipment will be provided.

This program is open to participants ages 8 and older. Parent/caregiver participants are encouraged. The program is limited to 16 participants. Cost is $10/person.

Glow-Bye Summer

Enjoy a glowing summer send-off with nighttime activities from 6:30-9 p.m. Sept. 26 at Friendship Park in Orion Township during Glow-Bye Summer.

This event includes activities that takes advantage of the earlier sunsets, such as a Hot Air Balloon Glow from 7-9 p.m.; glow putt-putt and disc golf; and a glow photo spot. There will also be art and a live music concert featuring the band Empty Canvas from 7-8:30 p.m., food trucks, face painting, arts & crafts and inflatables (socks required). Wear your best neon outfit to add to the fun. Friendship Park is located at 3380 Clarkston Road in Lake Orion. For more information, call 248-858-0916.

Pet Wellness Clinic

Keep your dog or cat healthy and happy by attending our upcoming Pet Wellness Clinic from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 27 at Pontiac Oaks County Park. No appointments are needed to get your pet vaccinated, obtain preventative care, receive microchipping and/or purchase a dog license. Vaccinations, heartworm tests, flea prevention and dewormer are available. For pet safety, bring dogs on a short leash with a snug collar and cats in a carrier.

Movie in the Park

Join us for a themed movie and activities during Trivia & Terror from 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 3 at Waterford Oaks County Park. Test your horror film knowledge with trivia beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by a showing of the film “Friday the 13th” (1980). Trivia will be hosted by professional trivia company Quizzo! The movie is rated R, not appropriate for children under age 17. 

Bring chairs or a blanket to settle in and relax. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Events will be held weather permitting and insect repellent is recommended for the park setting. For more information, email Events@oakgov.com.

Craft, Create & Consume

Join us for Craft, Create & Consume, a make-and-take porch pot class for an enjoyable night out, solo or with friends, from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 20 and Dec. 4 at the Oakland County Farmers Market. Fun activities and light refreshments are also included. Registration begins Oct. 20.
