Oakland County Planning
The Oakland County Planning Division provides planning and economic development programs and services to local governments, non-profits, developers and businesses. Focus areas include land use & zoning, commercial revitalization, historic preservation and environmental stewardship.
Planning Services
One of the primary functions of the Oakland County Planning Division is to assist with the land use and zoning functions of our local communities, as well as, numerous event and training opportunities.
Environmental Stewardship
Our mission is to provide information, plans and options to promote conservation of Oakland County's natural environment while supporting sustainable economic growth, development and redevelopment.
Trails & Pathways
Active trail and pathway planning has been going on in Oakland County for more than 40 years. This resulting non-motorized network is envisioned to serve a diverse range of users of all ages and abilities, to promote active and healthy lifestyles and to provide safe and well-maintained linkages to important natural, cultural and civic destinations and other points of interest within and outside the county.
Brownfield Program
Oakland County communities, developers, and property owners have a number of community and economic development tools at their disposal. The following tools may be used to develop a district, board, and possible funding mechanisms for improvements, development and redevelopment projects.
Waste, Materials Management & Recycling
The Oakland County Planning Division maintains the county's Solid Waste Plan (until the State approves the Materials Management Plan), oversees the Materials Management Planning process, administers a household hazardous waste program, and provides recycling and disposal information to residents.
Historic Preservation
Our mission is to help protect and preserve Oakland County's rich historic and cultural resources through awareness, proper technical assistance and sustainability practice.
Main Street Oakland County
Main Street Oakland County (MSOC) is our unique economic development program for downtowns, with a historic preservation philosophy and an emphasis on "sense of place." We help local government develop their downtowns as vibrant, successful districts that serve as the heart of their communities.
