The Application Process
Adding Your Resume
You can import your resume from LinkedIn, upload it from a saved document on your computer, or manually enter your personal information.
Your application will be saved and can be used to apply for future job openings. Online applications are stored on a secure site. Only authorized employees and hiring authorities have access to the information submitted.
Adding Your Work Experience
You are required to include your work experience in the Work Experience Section of your application. Please review the job posting, specifically the purpose of the position and the minimum qualifications, prior to answering the work experience questions; and note that only related work experience will be considered.
If you have uploaded a resume, your listed work experience will parse/transfer into the Work Experience Section in the application. Please review the transferred information to ensure you make any needed corrections, prior to submitting your application. If you are currently employed in a role, please use today’s date as your ‘End Date’.
If you do not have a resume, you will need to manually fill in your previous work experience into the Work Experience Section in the application. You will need to include Hours Worked Per Week, Name of Employer, Job Title, Dates of Employment (start date and end date), Description (job duties) and Reason for Leaving, for each of your previous jobs you are listing. If you are currently in the role being listed, please use today’s date as your ‘End Date’.
Please Note: You must provide full detail in the employment history section noting the skills, experience and hours worked per week pertaining to the minimum qualifications. Applications may be rejected if incomplete.
Examinations
Applicants will be tested in groups as they apply. Successful applicants, regardless of their testing date, will be ranked on the eligible list based on their final examination scores. The original rank of persons on the eligible list may change as later applicants are tested and added to the list. Notice of the last date to apply for an examination will be posted in the Human Resources Department and on the posting one week (7 calendar days) prior to the application deadline. Applications will not be accepted after the posted closing date.
The purpose of the examinations is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present or possible future vacancies in each classification. For each vacancy, a Department Director/Division Manager has the choice of the applicants from those listed on the eligible list. This list will remain in effect for six months unless exhausted, superseded by a new eligible list or extended for another six months by the Human Resources Committee.
Job Listings Without a Close Date
For a continuous examination, applications will be accepted until such time as there are sufficient applicants to meet the County's current recruitment needs. As such, interested persons should make an application promptly. Due to the volume of applications received, not all applicants are granted an opportunity to interview. If you are selected to interview, county staff will contact you typically within 30 days after the advertised closing date.

By filling out the Job Application and transmitting it to Oakland County via the Internet, you are consenting to provide the County with the personally identifiable information contained in the application document. The information you provide in the job application may be kept and used by the County for its purposes in accordance with its applicable policies.
