If you’ve completed high school and are ready to launch your career, Oakland County offers a variety of entry-level positions that are posted at least once a year. Keep an eye out for roles such as Office Assistant I, General Clerical, General Helper, Maintenance Laborer, Animal Shelter Attendant, Autopsy Attendant, and Youth Specialist I. Part-time Jobs

Part-time positions work up to 1,000 hours per calendar year and allow employees the ability to work around commitments outside of the County. We offer summer employment, student positions, college intern positions, and year-round part-time employment.

Summer Jobs

Summer positions at Oakland County are open to anyone 16 years and older and typically require little to no prior experience—making them a great way to gain work experience while enjoying the season. Many of these roles are within the Parks and Recreation Department, offering a fun and active way to spend the summer. Positions include Seasonal Laborers, Lifeguards, Program Specialists, Food Service Workers, Park Attendants, and Program Leaders.

For individuals 18 and older, there are additional opportunities outside of Parks and Recreation. These roles include Law Clerk, Seasonal Laborer, Summer Animal Census Worker, Program Leader, Summer Clerical, Criminal Justice/Casework Assistant, Health Education Assistant, and Horticulture Advisor. Whether you're looking to explore a career path or just want a rewarding summer job, Oakland County has something for you.

Student Jobs

High school and college students have a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience by performing entry-level administrative tasks across a variety of County departments. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 16 years old and currently enrolled in high school or college.

College Internships

An internship with Oakland County is a valuable opportunity to gain real-world experience while earning college credit. Our College Internship Program is designed to help you apply what you’re learning in the classroom to meaningful work that makes a difference in the community. With paid positions available year-round, you can find an opportunity that fits your academic schedule, whether you’re a freshman just getting started or a graduate student looking to take the next step.

Every May, our internship cohort program kicks off, offering interns a supportive, collaborative experience where they can grow professionally and build lasting connections. As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience in your field, develop key skills, and learn from dedicated public servants, all while contributing to innovative projects across the County. Our interns will also get free career coaching services and access to part-time employee benefits.
