Undersheriff Timothy Willis is a twenty-nine-year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and was promoted to his current position in February 2025. As Undersheriff, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff's Office and acts as the Sheriff's Chief Deputy. He aids in the oversight of the more than $200 million annual budget, while managing over 1400 employees.
Undersheriff Willis was hired by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office in 1996 as a Deputy; then promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2006, Lieutenant in 2016, Captain in 2024, and to his current position of Undersheriff in 2025.
Undersheriff Willis previously served as the Investigative and Forensic Services (IFS) Division Captain, and as one of the Detective Lieutenants for the division. As the Detective Lieutenant he oversaw the Sheriff's Special Investigations Unit, the Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Warrants Unit, and the Computer Crimes Unit. Undersheriff Willis was the lead investigator on the Oxford High School Shooting and the Sheriff’s Case OIC for the criminal cases against the shooter and the shooter’s parents. He has also conducted several high-profile investigations, along with multiple officer involved shootings and internal investigations. Undersheriff Willis has worked in several other areas of the Sheriff's Office, including corrections, patrol, and investigations.
Undersheriff Willis has received numerous awards, including Professional Excellence Citations, Commendation Citations, Sheriff's Special Commendation Citations, Sheriff's Distinguished Unit Citations, and a Disaster Bar Citation.
Undersheriff Willis holds a Master’s Degree in Management Strategy and Leadership (MSL) from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from Rochester University. He is also a graduate of the Michigan State University School of Police Staff and Command.
