natural resources

Oakland County Parks' Natural Resources Management Program is dedicated to ensuring the health and function of natural communities and waterbodies within our more than 6,700-acre park system that intersects five major watersheds and contains many of their headwaters. These natural spaces are some of the best remaining examples of remnant natural communities in Southeast Michigan. Functioning as major ecological "hubs" within a larger network of open spaces, natural areas and waterways, our parks fulfill critical roles by supporting ecosystem services, protecting water quality and providing wildlife habitat.

We believe in a holistic approach to natural resources management, focused on county-wide ecosystem health and support of local communities in implementation of priority projects. We promote natural resource and sustainability best practices and act as a resource for our county residents. We work together across Oakland County to preserve, protect, and promote conservation, stewardship, and sustainable practices.
